Exodus 4:28
“And Moses explained to Aaron all the words of the Lord, by which he had sent him, and the signs which he had commanded.”
Verse Explanation
A saved explanation for Exodus 4:28.
Plain-language explanation
Moses tells Aaron everything the Lord has said and done through him—his message and the signs God commanded. In other words, Moses shares the whole mission with his brother, so they can stand together in obedience.
Catholic context
Many Catholics see this as a model of faithful communication within God’s work: God’s call isn’t meant to be kept secret or handled alone. Moses shares the Lord’s words with Aaron, preparing the way for Aaron to participate in serving God’s people.
Historical background
After God called Moses at the burning bush and instructed him to return to Egypt, Moses needed Aaron’s help as a spokesperson and supporter (see earlier in Exodus 4). This verse comes at the moment when Moses returns and brings Aaron into the full understanding of God’s commands and the accompanying signs.
Reflection
Notice how Moses doesn’t only tell Aaron “something happened”—he shares “all the words” and the “signs.” Faithfulness involves honesty, completeness, and trust in God’s direction rather than improvising on our own.
Practical takeaway
When God leads us, we can share the mission clearly with the people who are meant to help—without exaggeration or omission. Also, we can be attentive to the “signs” of God’s guidance in our lives and act in step with them.
Prayer
Lord God, help me to speak and act with faithfulness and clarity. Like Moses, give me a sincere willingness to share Your word with others; and like Aaron, help me to support the mission You place before me. Amen.
