Daily Prayers

Our Father

The prayer Jesus taught his disciples and one of the foundational prayers of Catholic life.

Prayer Text

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

How To Pray This

Catholics pray the Our Father at Mass, in the Rosary, in the Liturgy of the Hours, and in personal prayer throughout the day.

  1. Begin with the Sign of the Cross and a brief moment of recollection.
  2. Pray the words slowly, giving special attention to God's will, daily bread, mercy, and deliverance from evil.
  3. Pause afterward to place your present needs before the Father in your own words.

This prayer is especially fitting when you want to return to the words Christ himself gave the Church.
