Rosary Prayers

A guided summary of the main prayers and structure of the Holy Rosary.

Prayer Text

The Rosary ordinarily begins with the Sign of the Cross, the Apostles Creed, one Our Father, three Hail Marys, and one Glory Be.

Each decade includes one mystery, one Our Father, ten Hail Marys, one Glory Be, and usually the Fatima Prayer.

The traditional closing includes the Hail Holy Queen and a concluding prayer asking God to help us imitate what the mysteries contain and obtain what they promise.

The Joyful Mysteries are usually prayed on Monday and Saturday, the Sorrowful on Tuesday and Friday, the Glorious on Wednesday and Sunday, and the Luminous on Thursday.

How To Pray This

The Rosary is both vocal prayer and meditation. It works best when prayed calmly, with time for the mysteries to sink in.

  1. Begin by announcing the first mystery and taking a moment to reflect on it.
  2. Move bead by bead through the prayers, keeping your attention on Christ through the mystery.
  3. At the end, thank God for the graces received and carry one point of reflection into your day.
